# PAdES Studio

> PAdES Studio is a native macOS application for signing and verifying PDF documents using digital certificates. It creates standards-based PAdES-oriented PDF digital signatures (PAdES-B-B through PAdES-B-LTA) using private keys stored in macOS Keychain or on a CryptoTokenKit smart card or hardware token. All PDF processing happens locally on the user's device.

## Features

- **Keychain signing** – select a signing identity from macOS Keychain, including smart cards and hardware tokens exposed through CryptoTokenKit. The private key never leaves Keychain or the token.
- **Visible signatures** – optional page area with signature image, signer name, and signing time, independent of the cryptographic model.
- **RFC 3161 timestamping** – embed a trusted timestamp from any RFC 3161 compliant TSA into the signature or as an archive timestamp.
- **Long-term validation (LTV)** – embed certificates, OCSP responses, and CRLs in the PDF Document Security Store (DSS/VRI) to enable future verification without network access.
- **Signature inspection** – review signature status, certificate chains, timestamps, DSS material, EU Trusted List evidence, and detected PAdES profiles.
- **Multiple signatures** – add signatures as incremental PDF updates; existing signatures are preserved and remain independently verifiable.
- **EU Trusted Lists** – optional support for EU LOTL and national trusted-list CA/QC data as a technical trust source.
- **Local processing** – PDF files are never sent to the developer's server; network access is used only for TSA, OCSP, CRL, or EUTL endpoints the user configures.

## Supported PAdES profiles

- **PAdES-B-B** – baseline detached CAdES signature embedded in a PDF signature field.
- **PAdES-B-T** – PAdES-B-B with an RFC 3161 signature timestamp.
- **PAdES-B-LT** – PAdES-B-T with DSS/VRI material (certificates, OCSP responses, or CRLs).
- **PAdES-B-LTA** – PAdES-B-LT with an archive document timestamp covering the DSS update revision.
